Usually when Gympie has a big flood we get a couple of days warning. After a hundred years, the weather guys have it pretty down pat. And usually the rain comes from the south.
Not this year. This year we got rain from the north, and we had less than a days warning. Which is still better than most people granted, but we get accustomed to our luxuries here…
This photo shows the beginnings of the flood. Usually you can’t see the river, or any water at all from our place.
Here you can see it is rising somewhat. This was Sunday and we were taking a break from bringing everything upstairs, out of the danger zone.
A luxury not many people get to have. We are extremely lucky. If your place is going to flood, you want it to flood like it does here!!! Steady, and with warning!!!
This was taken the next day, Monday, and my birthday, near the peak. It didn’t reach the house after all but it did hit the kids cubby and the back shed. We filled a skip of stuff that is now at the local tip. Less stuff to worry about next time! I like keeping things simple.
Sorry the picture isn’t too clear on this one… But I love the image of my boys cubby house, complete with moat.
We live near duck ponds, and Monday lunchtime at high tide (the river peaked at 11am), some ducks came around for some bread. Some people have to drive to the duck ponds – we get the duck ponds home delivered. We are that special!!! 😉
My husband also joined in the fun Sunday evening while we were looking over the rising water… He turned to me and lovingly said “Happy Birthday sweetie…
… I got you some waterfront property!”
